The Liberec chateau got its present form in the Classical period at the end of the 18th century. Originally it was built in the Renaissance style. The castle was built by the Counts of Redern and construction began in 1583. At that time the castle was one of the first brick buildings in Liberec. The design of the building is said to be the work of Marcus Antonio de Lancio. It is unlikely that we will ever know exactly what the castle looked like today. It was supposed to be a two-storey building with a gabled roof in the late Renaissance style. There was a wall around the castle and bastions of oval plan at the corners. In 1600 Countess Katherine took over the administration of the family estate. By her decision, the construction of the chapel on the north side of the castle began in 1604. Jan Arcon of Zittau was entrusted with the construction. At the same time, a tower was built, which became the bell tower. This tower is the only building that has survived in its original state to this day. After its completion, the construction of the second wing began. In 1615, the entire castle burnt down, except for the chapel. Jan Arcon of Zittau, already mentioned, was commissioned to repair the castle.
